073 – Random facts about beards

Nov 11, 2009

All ficional, of course. Although the one about Craig David makes perfect sense in my opinion. Come on, who wants to groom and trim that every morning?
Like the title suggests, this is maybe one of the most random comics I’ve made so far. I went into automatic mode and quickly wrote down 4 beard-related pieces of nonsense and illustrated them. So it turned out more ‘fun excercise’ than ‘funny comic’.
Feel free to contribute your own beard facts in the comments, maybe I could make them into a big fact sheet or something like that.

Random facts about beards In 1942, the record holder for ‘biggest moustache’ suffocated during lunch time when his soup-soaked moustache swelled up. The garden shears came too late. A braided beard is up to 20 times stronger than any conventional rope of the same thickness. While facial hair is a very distinct manly trait, the ‘Craig David’ is the only form of facial hair in the Great Catalogue of Beards and Moustaches’, that is described as ‘girly’. A plan formulated in the 16th century, to replace all ropes on commercial ships by braided beards, ended in disaster when the corrosive effects of salt water became apparent.

Johnny Depp’s beard is girly. So is the beard on most paintings of Jesus.

Johnny Depp’s baby face doesn’t really lend itself for beardness I suppose. He had a descent in Pirates, didn’t he? But maybe that was glued on :P
Can’t imagine every seeing him with a home-grown beard, must investigate!
